Does anyone have any monitor recommendations, I’m looking for a 27 inch monitor with 1ms, and hertz over 60, and a resolution of preferably 1440p and my budget is 300ish
Spartankitty 27-Nov-18 01:38 PM
@wheatys
wheatys 27-Nov-18 01:40 PM
Will the ms difference be significant? (edited)
Spartankitty 27-Nov-18 01:45 PM
@wheatys i mean
Unless you are playing esports at like tournament level (edited)
Not much
My monitor has 5ms response time
I plan on upgrading it soon but its still very much playable
Repress 27-Nov-18 05:34 PM
trying to decide on 24inch 1080p vs 27 inch 1440p is torture lol.
worse then buying a pc
all this talk bout optimal viewing distances and etc is bogglin my mind. (edited)
Spartankitty 27-Nov-18 07:07 PM
@Repress 1440p is better
Unless you're playing esports
But you got a 2080 right?
Then it would be a waste of money to get a 1080p monitor
Repress 27-Nov-18 07:27 PM
@Spartankitty atm im deciding between 3 monitors unless i find a better deal dunno if i should link them all here XD
There all 350$ for me. Dell S2716DGR 27" LED QHD GSync Monitor 144hz // Dell S2417DG 24 inch GSync Monitor 165hz // HP Omen 27in 165hz Gysnc Monitor.
Spartankitty 27-Nov-18 07:42 PM
@Repress last one seems the best
Repress 27-Nov-18 07:58 PM
yeah, if i go to walmart and its actually there ill prob pick that up.
just hoping 27 isnt to big
Spartankitty 27-Nov-18 08:15 PM
probably not
Infitalias00 27-Nov-18 08:35 PM
I grabbed the 34 inch curved 120hz since It got as cheap as it seemed possible and only plan to use one monitor for time being, happy with it
Shawn Matthias Howlsey 27-Nov-18 08:44 PM
Just know not all games will support ultrawide resolution.
Spartankitty 27-Nov-18 08:46 PM
@Shawn Matthias Howlsey it may now be ultra wide
not*
Shawn Matthias Howlsey 27-Nov-18 08:46 PM
?
Spartankitty 27-Nov-18 08:58 PM
the guy didn't say the monitor he got was ultra wide
Shawn Matthias Howlsey 27-Nov-18 09:01 PM
If it’s 34 inches and curved, I’m assuming it is an ultrawide.
Spartankitty 28-Nov-18 11:30 AM
Idk i have seen a lot of curved non ultra wide monitors

Gyro 02-Dec-18 08:24 PM
I got a 1070 ti and ryzen 2600. Not sure what I'll be capable of resolution wise. Like obviously I want 1440p 144hz but if it wont work well with that combo what should I aim for?
Gamer 02-Dec-18 08:24 PM
It'll work fine with that for most games.
It's overkill for regular HD
Go 1440p/144 hz
You can always lower a setting here and there for certain games if FPS drops below 144
Gyro 02-Dec-18 08:26 PM
Any particular brands to stay away from? I'm on a bit of a budget, dont think I can get anything over 300
Gamer 02-Dec-18 08:26 PM
You're stuck with a TN panel then
Not many choices for under 300
Gyro 02-Dec-18 08:27 PM
Maybe I should just stick with my HDTV or 1080p 60hz monitor until I can get something better (edited)
Gamer 02-Dec-18 08:28 PM
All of them are over $300
Now there might be some deals out there with coupons or codes or flash sales that get one under $300
But that's what you should expect to pay for one.
As far as using your 1080p TV with that computer, that would be a shame tbh.
I did that once, won't go back.
What's the point in having a good computer if you're playing it on that sort of monitor?
Infitalias00 03-Dec-18 03:55 PM
Got my second 34" monitor from amazon today, actually looks better than first as far as everything, so yay I got a better panel and getting about $200 back from first (ordered a second one at better price since amazon wouldnt price match the first even though it changed day after ordering and hadnt been delivered yet)

Whats the point of the USB slots on a monitor?
I thought id be able to plug my keyboard or mouse but realized it wouldn't actually work and tried it to see and it didnt, I guess for like charging a phone?

Infitalias00 04-Dec-18 06:06 PM

BBurch 10-Jan-19 08:21 AM
Does anyone have a clue on what model this monitor and keyboard are? They are part of a lot that I may purchase, and I’m just trying to identify it.
ToTimesTwoIsToo 10-Jan-19 08:24 AM
eh not sure, monitor appears to be LG?
and the keyboard logo looks like a razer
i would post the image to /r/mechanicalkeyboards for the KB identification
the monitor will be much harder, but you can probably narrow it down to a few models
the base might be unique
perhaps post on /r/monitors
BBurch 10-Jan-19 08:35 AM
Appreciate it. The more I am looking at possibilities, the more it looks like this is one of their 4K models. Could be some decent value. Gonna keep searching and hopefully something before I make the trip.
ToTimesTwoIsToo 10-Jan-19 08:36 AM
the monitor looks smallish, ~23inch. do they make 4k at that size?
BBurch 10-Jan-19 08:40 AM
I may have misjudged the size then. I was thinking it’s a 27
The one that I keep seeing that looks the same is the LG 27ud88
ToTimesTwoIsToo 10-Jan-19 08:45 AM
to me it looks identical to this one, but silver https://www.lg.com/hk_en/monitor/lg-23MP68VQ-P

hey all, are there any new "best" gaming monitors now that nvidia cards can use freesync? im looking for an IPS 1440p (or ultrawide) 144hz monitor. Im willing to spend the money but if i can save with a freesync instead of a gsync that would be great!
Zion 27-Jan-19 06:57 PM
Heads up, gsync and freesync are literally the same thing.
One has a patent, the other is free
lanthissa 28-Jan-19 10:12 AM
hey all, I'm looking for advice on a 24inch monitor for work/light gaming that has a vesa mount. I havent bought a monitor in forever so i dont really know whats good. Is there any default noob buy you guys recomend? not picky just looking for something vesamountable that will last
Mark 28-Jan-19 10:30 AM
Hi @lanthissa! I have a couple general choices but it would be more helpful to know what type of work you do / type of computer you have.
Also a budget would be helpful too. (edited)
lanthissa 28-Jan-19 10:32 AM
hey mark, I have a macbook pro that i hook up my monitor too, within the next month or so i'll end up buying a desktop PC though
Mark 28-Jan-19 10:34 AM
Alright. Just as a ballpark estimate, for nicer 24'' monitors you're looking at around $200-300. Is that fine?
I'm not too sure what to really focus on because I don't know what it is that you do, but if gaming isn't a focus I generally look for a higher resolution + color accuracy.
lanthissa 28-Jan-19 10:41 AM
i don't need super high quality 200ish is fine though. I mainly use this for worrk as a developer and a bit of casual gaming on the side
the only game i really play is magic arena which has pretty low graphic requirements 😃
Mark 28-Jan-19 10:42 AM
So first off there are the Dell UltraSharp line of monitors. Here's the link for the 1080p
woops didn't mean to press enter haha
anyways, here's the link for the 24'' 1080p variant it's got really small bezels and the panel is really good. I've seen them in person and they are very nice. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-U2417H-UltraSharp-LED-Backlit-Monitor/dp/B01D11JUAU/ref=sr_1_fkmr3_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1548700646&sr=1-2-fkmr3&keywords=dell+ultrasharp+24+1440p#customerReviews

What's the best but not to expensive 240hz montior to go with?
PC404 12-Apr-19 07:13 AM
@Cmk Mouse input differences will be felt if your fps fluctuates a lot. You want close to 240 at all times, or at least over 200fps at all times. As good as 240hz is, 144hz capped is definitely good for input consistency. I find this isn't talked about enough. Fluctuating fps impacts consistency in aim. The slight input delay of solid 144 capped fps is not hard to adjust to, as it doesn't change. https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-25-Gaming-Monitor-AW2518Hf/dp/B0733YCKM5/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537618008&sr=8-1&keywords=alienware+240hz+monitor

What should I be looking for in a monitor? I just need a simple 1080p one that's somewhere around 20 inches. I don't have anything specific in mind and I don't wanna accidentally get a bad one
Mike 27-Apr-19 07:46 PM
@Rozie budget? what is it for?
Rozie 27-Apr-19 07:47 PM
My budget is about $150 CAD. I will mostly be using it for playing games like Minecraft and hearthstone (and probably watching a lot of YouTube as well).
Mike 27-Apr-19 07:49 PM
keep in mind this has no hdmi port
so you will want a dvi-d cable

Rozie 30-Apr-19 07:35 AM
Are bigger monitors just easier to use? Or just because of screen space? @💕 コード:002 💕
💕 コード:002 💕 30-Apr-19 07:37 AM
Bigger monitors are just overall better. Gaming you can spot details better (up to a certain point), while multitasking you can fit programs bigger (side by side Win 10 multitasking), etc
I like 24-27" for 1080p.
Rozie 30-Apr-19 07:38 AM
That makes a lot of sense. Since I will be using it mostly for gaming I'll probably get a bigger one. But since there's lots of places in my area that have monitors I'm sure I could find a good one for a decent price.
💕 コード:002 💕 30-Apr-19 02:30 PM
You can also buy used, they'll be a whole lot cheaper. Just make sure to test them before anything.

userpay 16-May-19 09:36 AM
So random question, when I get a desktop I will need to get an additional monitor. would there be any issues with using a 144hz monitor (w/freesync/adaptive?) as the main monitor and a normal HD 1080p monitor as the secondary?
Don't really want to buy two if I don't need to but I'm also looking with an eye towards future proofing as I'd probably start with a system that would stick to 60hz and later on upgrade it to handle 144. So it makes sense to get a 144hz monitor now but I don't know whether the non-144hz will have issues.

Hi friends, i am looking for a monitor. I'm aiming for 144hz, 1ms ping, and 1440p, 24inch. What price range should I be looking at? Would a 1080p monitor be okay if I'm short on money? Let me know if I shouldn't be skimping on the monitor. I have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 GPU.
Elisis 07-Jun-19 12:42 AM
You don't want 24" if you're going 1440p. (edited)

Alright, I have an 1080p screen and it'll probably be a while before I can upgrade, since I'm s l o w l y cobbling up the money to upgrade my PC. If I get a Ryzen CPU and I don't bother with overclocking, what would be the best graphics card that's bang for my buck and isn't over 250?

JKL 07-Jun-19 10:47 PM

Eggmanronpa 08-Jun-19 04:26 PM
Today I learned the 480 that I currently have is better than the 580 that I was looking at, according to the comparison: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-RX-580-vs-Radeon-RX-480
We put the 1.3 GHz AMD RX 580 to the test against the 1.1 GHz RX 480 to find out which you should buy.
Or rather, it's not worth upgrading to the 580. Given that I'm building a new motherboard, would I be fine with sticking to the 480 if I just stay at 1080p and just get a better one in a few years as opposed to now? (edited)
I'll probably upgrade to 1440 with a new monitor at the same time, which will probably run me the same as getting a more expensive graphics card.
Rozie 09-Jun-19 08:59 AM
So I'm looking for a monitor I can use as my secondary one. I already have a pretty decent 24 inch one and I just kind of want another smaller one. I don't need it to be super high end. I will mostly be using it for watching YouTube as I'm playing games and browsing etc. I would like if it was under $150 CAD but I know sometimes it can be harder to find really cheap ones.
💕 コード:002 💕 09-Jun-19 01:59 PM
Those are stock GPUs so don't let yourself be fooled, @Eggmanronpa.
The 580 is a solid 1080p card which can work for 1440p but if your eventual goal is 1440p with that card you could think about upgrading, specially if you wanna play new competitive FPS.
Eggmanronpa 09-Jun-19 02:28 PM
I... tend not to. DMC5
is probably the heaviest thing I'd go for right now.
So are you saying that it's worth it to hit up a 580?
Eggmanronpa 09-Jun-19 02:38 PM
rather than squeezing another two years out of my 480 (I got the 480 fresh at the end of 2016)
Mike 09-Jun-19 06:03 PM
@Eggmanronpa rx 580 is basically just a refreshed 480 with 5% better performance
Eggmanronpa 09-Jun-19 06:05 PM
Yeah, that's what I read. It's not worth the jump when my 480 is fine for 1080p and will last another couple of years
Mike 09-Jun-19 06:06 PM
its not a "jump" or even a step-up xD
Mike 09-Jun-19 06:51 PM
imo the only worthy upgrade from a 480 would be at least a rtx 2060 or vega 56 (edited)
JKL 09-Jun-19 09:15 PM
i wouldn't buy a rtx right now
nvidia just stated they would lower their MSRP by a hundred bucks as well as add more cores

userpay 12-Jun-19 05:52 PM
welp, thats two TN monitors that have had issues either out of the box or within a week.
